About Us

Hertford Music Club was founded in 1940 by Thomas Barber to promote music in Hertford. In the world’s oldest Friends Meeting House still in use, we stage and host a wide variety of live classical concerts from both local and world-renowned artists.

Please enjoy your visit to our website; the best place to find out about live classical music in Hertfordshire’s historic county town.

Admission tickets for individual concerts can be purchased in advance or on the door. By subscribing to the season, you will ensure entry to all concerts at a discounted price.

Where we meet

Venue

The Hertford Quaker Meeting House
50 Railway Street, Hertford, SG14 1BA

Hertford Music Club meets at The Hertford Quaker Meeting House in Railway Street.

Friends in the Truth, as they originally knew themselves, date their existence from 1652, and Hertford Quakers have been corporately organised since 1655. The Meeting House, built in 1670, is the oldest Quaker Meeting House in the world to have been purpose-built and to have remained in continuous use. The building’s harmonious simplicity, including re-used timbers, is in keeping with Quaker Testimonies of Simplicity, Truth, Equality and Peace.
